The Throne of Charlemagne in the Architectural System of the Aachen Palatine Chapel
Jan Pieper and Bruno Schindler present their building research on the Aachen Palatine Chapel by giving a lecture at the aachen_fenster. Due to improved methods and very precise questions, their research has led to fundamentally new insights into the geometry and the dimensions of the throne and the church. Numerous graffito finds at the throne and altar pemit to determine the age and the origin of the spolia. By determining them, a completely new perspective on the iconography of „Throne and Altar, Octagon and Hexadecagon“ is created, systematically developed by the authors in their book of the same title, which has recently been published by the Aachen Geymüller Verlag für Architektur.
