2017 | Romanesque Architecture in Burgundy

The Burgundian Benedictine abbey of Cluny is known to every student from the lectures. But Cluny's ingenious building programme is only the tip of the iceberg.

This iceberg is the Romanesque architecture of Burgundy. With Cluny as one of the most important cultural and religious catalysts, hundreds more churches, cathedrals and abbeys were built - partly with architectural and religious proximity to Cluny, partly as counter-concepts. In addition, there were numerous regional and national influences.
 
Thus a great architectural treasure was created in Burgundy, which was worth being discovered in the context of our excursion.
