architektur. kultur. kontext. online

The open access journal www.archimaera.de is a forum for interdisciplinary and inter-methodological exchange on architecture.

Architecture has many facets, as does the study of it. Architectural design, architectural history and architectural theory approach their common subject from different sides and with different methods. archimaera dedicates itself at least once a year to an overarching theme that enables access to the present and history of building both from a cultural perspective and from the practice of design-related engagement with architecture.

Architecture is addressed as an overarching cultural phenomenon that needs to be grasped in its entire span. Typology and use, media presence and social functions, motifs, history and interpretation, artistic character and symbolism, construction and materiality are categories of the architectural that represent a common approach for all participating disciplines.

The editorial board of the journal, founded in 2007, consists of a group of architects, art and architectural historians, and architectural theorists from the entire German-speaking area and is supported by reviews from renowned international peers.
