The Salvatorberg is a very old settlement area in front of the Lousberg. Emperor Louis the Pious had a hermitage built on the top of the hill where he could retreat to escape the hustle and bustle of the court in the Aachen Palatinate.

In historical times, this place of retreat was run by religious orders until its decay at the end of the 18th century. Reconstruction in the 19th century required the total loss of the original building fabric of the church, and reconstruction after the 2nd World War required the partial loss of the historical dwelling.

The design dealt with the conversion and the rebuilding into a music workshop for scholarship holders of the University of Music and Dance Cologne, department Aachen. A practice hermitage with space for concerts in the church was to be built.
