As an alternative to the classical architectural design project, the Chair of Architectural History offers a one-semester scientific project work in the field of architectural history/building research. Within the framework of the project, the students work on an independent research question on a concrete historical building. At the beginning there is a one-week on-site survey of the building, which is prepared as a group work and in which the students are systematically introduced to the methods of historical building research. On this basis, the students, together with the lecturers, develop a clearly defined research topic, which they then pursue in individual work. The methods of scientific work are taught in the supplementary module: Here students learn how to systematically research literature and image sources, how to record the state of research, how to formulate their own research questions, and how to present the results of their work in a scientifically consistent and clearly structured way in text, drawing, and image. This semester's research objects are "Scherpenheuvel: Church and City in a Heptagon" and "Maria Laach - The Romanesque Monastery Church".
