M3 | How will we learn tomorrow?
Ideas for the Library of RWTH Aachen University
RWTH Aachen University's public learning rooms are bursting at the seams. The responsible parties are therefore urgently looking for concepts for a generous spatial and typological extension of its range of learning rooms with a direct connection to the library. Who better to develop such ideas than architecture students who are about to graduate and are therefore familiar with the organization of larger, more complex spatial programmes?
The aim of the Master's thesis is to develop a concept for a multifunctional hybrid building that meets a wide range of requirements. Students, researchers and teachers need comfortable access to the latest digital and traditional analogue media, they need a productive learning environment in the form of communicative and contemplative zones for productive learning, they need a public forum in which scientific discourse can be cultivated – and all this has to be possible under a single roof!
Participants in the project will show how an appropriate architectural framework can look like – one that meets all these requirements, one that sees the library as the heart of the university, as the center of scientific exchange.
In cooperation with the AG Kreativräume (Working Group for Creative Spaces) the finished proposals will be presented to and discussed with the relevant decision-makers within the university (head of the university library, RWTH building management, rectorate).
