Ideas for the Library of RWTH Aachen University
RWTH Aachen University's public learning rooms are bursting at the seams, so the responsible parties are urgently looking for concepts for a generous spatial and typological extension of its range of learning rooms with a direct connection to the library. Who better to develop such ideas than architecture students who are about to graduate and are therefore familiar with the organization of larger, more complex spatial programmes?
The aim of the Master's thesis is to develop a concept for a multifunctional hybrid building that meets a wide range of requirements. Students, researchers and teachers need comfortable access to the latest digital and traditional analogue media, they need a productive learning environment in the form of communicative and contemplative zones for productive learning, they need a public forum in which scientific discourse can be cultivated – and all this under one roof!
You will show how an appropriate architectural framework can look like, one that meets all these requirements, one that sees the library as the heart of the university, as the center of scientific exchange.
The drafts will be presented and discussed in cooperation with the AG Kreativršume (Working Group for Creative Spaces) at influential university departments (head of the university library, RWTH building management, rectorate).
