In a time of profound changes when the northern Dutch provinces declared their independence from Spanish foreign rule in the late 16th century, the city of Amsterdam developed into a flourishing trading metropolis.

In this seminar we will produce a podcast covering the history of the city as well as the history of selected secular and sacred buildings in Amsterdam. The podcast shall guide through their different construction and usage phases. The content is worked out in tandems or small groups.

To be able to visualize the city and its buildings through language the focus of the seminar lays also on the topic of building description. Creative solutions to stylistic devices and background sound effects are welcome and encouraged.
