As an alternative to a traditional design assignment, the chair offers a project that combines object-oriented scholarly research, the development of strategies for the presentation of matters of architectural history and the actual design of exhibition settings into one comprehensive course.

In the first part of the two-semester class, in a research project based on the comprehensive documentation of the actual fabric, you will examine Kornelimünster Abbey as a setting for the veneration of several important relics. The focus will be either on the elaborate residence on the edge of the actual convent, in which the prince abbot of the monastery ceremonially welcomed aristocratic pilgrims before they visited the biblical relics coming from Charlemagne's collections, or on the main choir chapel, which houses the remains of St Cornelius acquired through an exchange of relics.

You will then turn your research findings into an exhibition that, on the occasion of the 300-year anniversary of the baroque abbey buildings in the coming year, will illuminate the abbey's history from a variety of perspectives and which you will have the opportunity to plan and practically implement.
