Students who have a pronounced interest in building research and who have already gained experience at least in the field of tachymetric building survey, can deepen their knowledge of building surveys within this field of research. Which methods are particularly suitable for which building areas? How can digital and analogue methods be combined in a meaningful way? When is the use of SfM (Structure from Motion) based technologies worthwhile, when not?
We will pursue these questions "in situ" in and at the Koepelkerk in Willemstad, in and at the Fontana dell'Acqua Felice in Rome and in and at the Casino at Marino in Dublin complete the previous building surveys. "Ex situ" – after our return to Aachen – the data obtained on site will be transformed into print-ready drawings.

Prerequisite for participation in the research field is a pronounced interest in architectural history and building research as well as experience in the field of total station surveying. Interested students please send a letter of motivation as well as samples of their work to firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org by 11 October 2020. Do not forget to indicate your preferred project (Willemstad or Rome). Whether the excursions can really take place depends on the further development of the coronavirus pandemic. If they cannot take place, what was originally intended as a "practical" field of research would be transformed into a "theoretical" one: The participants would then produce small monographic research papers on topics that are part of the wider architectural-historical context of the particular object. A basic knowledge of Italian is required to work on a potential theoretical field of research on the context of the Fontana dell'Acqua Felice.
