Geometry and Meanings of a Spacial Typology

The research module examines the architecture of the centralized building as a typological phenomenon. The architectural motifs that are subject to the concept of the centralized building usually define the meaning and function to which the space is dedicated. Nevertheless, there arises the question how the centrality of architecture changes these motifs when they are repeated in its surrounding periphery. Above all, the formation of corners - concave as well as convex ones - is worthy of particular attention.
In all of this, the orthogonality of the the crossing - the four-sided geometry, which is able to create an overarching order in the centralized building that summarizes the axes and corners - plays a special role. Beyond this spatial reference accessible to our perception, deviating geometries create confusing and consciously disorienting spaces, the meaning of which always had to be independently defined by the individual client.
