Elements and Themes of Architecture

Gottfried Böhm is one of the most important architects of the second half of the 20th century. The first – and for a long time the only – German Pritzker Prize winner and long-serving professor of urban planning at our faculty repeatedly varied his own architectural language in his work, which continues to this day.

In the decades after the Second World War, following his father Dominikus Böhm, he first worked as a church builder, but since the 1960s other building tasks – public buildings, business buildings and residential buildings – have moved to the fore.

In the seminar we will not look at Gottfried Böhm's complete oeuvre in chronological order according to "phases of work", but rather attempt to detect recurring elements and themes that characterize his architecture beyond chronology and building tasks. The research and analysis results will be presented in brief texts, collages, drawings and models.
