Architectural Guide to Protestant Churches in Aachen

While the number of Protestant churches in Aachen was limited to the Annakirche and the historicist Dreifaltigkeitskirche until the middle of the 20th century due to the small size of the Protestant congregation, the number of parishioners rose rapidly after the Second World War and necessitated numerous new buildings in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Within the framework of the seminar, which is aimed at Bachelor students in the 3rd and 5th semesters, the Protestant churches in Aachen, from the Annakirche, which was taken into use in 1802, to the new Genezareth church on Vaalser Straße, which was completed in 2018, will be examined individually and placed in the history of Protestant church building.

In cooperation with the Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Aachen, an architectural guide to the Protestant churches in Aachen is to be produced in this way. The seminar is based on preparatory work by master students in the context of a past field of research.
It is possible to work together in groups of two or three on several churches erected within a decade and to work out commonalities and differences.

The seminar dates were coordinated with the construction start dates in the 5th semester, which also took place on some Wednesday afternoons.
