This course constitutes the second part of the lecture series Bautypen und Bauformen – Building Types and Designs – in which the most important historical typologies of architecture and city are being presented era by era in chronological order. The focus lies on the terminologically precise decription and analysis of architectural forms.

Building on the lecture offered in the first semester, the second semester will provide an overview of the architectural typologies of the Renaissance, the Baroque and the 19th century and conclude with a first outlook towards the fundamentals of the modern era.

At the end of the semester, the module will terminate in a written examination titled Kulturelle und Historische Grundlagen I – Cultural and Historical Background I – which will be organized jointly with the Department of Theory of Architecture and the Chair of Art History. A set of lecture notes covering both semesters of the lecture series is available. In L²P, e-tests are furthermore offered to supplement the lectures.
