B4 | The House on the Corner

The project is concerned with the complex task of building a corner house. Within perimeter blocks, the bourgeois architecture of the Gründerzeit has a predilection for corner buildings featuring elaborate turrets. In modernity, in particular between 1960 and the early 1980s, corner buildings are typically undifferentiated, inconspicuous standard solutions that do not live up to the opportunities provided by their prominent position.

The overall objective of the B4 project is to create corner buildings in the Aachen district between the Frankenberg Quarter and Elisenbrunnen. In close coordination with their supervisors, participants are develop concepts for functional corner buildings in the form of residential and commercial buildings, including cafés and hotels. Each participant will work individually on one of four locations already identified.
