The inner-city springs of Aachen, centrally located at the foot of the market hill and in the immediate vicinity of Charlemagne's Palatinate, are home to an abundance of warm thermal springs. Archaeological finds from the ancient thermal Büchel complex bear witness to the intensive use of water for bathing and healing purposes already in Roman times.

With the rediscovery of bathing, the use of medicinal springs experienced a real heyday until the middle of the 18th century, when Aachen was visited by numerous illustrious spa guests. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the cultural event of bathing remained a genuinely urban phenomenon, but today we indulge in this extra muros.

In the course of the bachelor's thesis, the aim was to create an architectural expression in the form of a spring bath that is appropriate in form, function and material to the importance of water for bathing and healing purposes that has always been immanent in Aachen. The building site for the vertical thermal typology that had to be developed was an exposed, approximately 600 m² plot near the Bahkauv monument.
